PRCA introduces new inclusion and diversity guidelines
The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) has launched a new set of guidelines to help improve diversity and inclusion in the sector.
This comes following a pledge from the body to tackle the issue of diversity among PR and comms firms, following its 2016 PR Census, which revealed the sector in the UK is 91 percent white and 83 percent British.
What's more, there was found to be a gender pay gap of £9,111 in favour of men, despite the fact that women make up 64 percent of professionals within the industry. The PRCA stated these statistics highlight the need for a "collaborative, industry-led approach to tackle the problem".
Therefore, the new guidelines provide a comprehensive, clear set of steps that companies should be taking to improve inclusion and diversity in their workplace. It also sets out the business case for such moves.
PRCA general director Francis Ingham said: "The consensus in the industry is that diversity must improve and today we are providing the industry with clear steps to make that change. Businesses must address diversity as a key priority for their business to grow and ultimately for the industry to grow."
