Priory Group ‘excited’ about BPD specialist service

4th August 2011

Priory Group has said it is excited by the progress being made on a specialist programme caring for patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD).

According to Professor Bruce Moore, medical director at the Priory Hospital Middleton St George, the staged approach offered by the Sandalwood scheme is producing outcomes beyond the organisation's expectations.

He suggested the initiative, led by consultant clinical psychologist Dr Heather Roberts, will be seen as the gold standard of BPD treatment in future.

"People with BPD often have multiple admissions to general mental health services without the opportunity to access the specialist services they require. This can lead to an ongoing dependency on NHS services," added Professor Moore.

The Sandalwood programme has been in operation since November 2010 and is driven by multi-disciplinary team discussion.

Priory Group recently announced the launch of its Ryan McKay Prize for 2011, which has as its topic 'The Pursuit of Happiness'.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800684443-ADNFCR
