Private Medical Sector to Reopen According to Health Minister
A private healthcare sector at Noble’s Hospital that closed in 2019 is set to be reopened in the coming year.
Member of the House of Keys, Lawrie Hooper, revealed that steps are being put in place to reinstate the private sector located in the Isle of Man. Manx care, an organization responsible for providing healthcare, are currently working on insurance and data access in preparation for the reopening.
Hooper emphasised that the private health sector should pose “no impact on NHS services”.
The Braddan institution has reopened their private facility to accommodate patients that have had their surgeries delayed by lockdown.
David Ashford, the previous health minister, stressed that the decision to close the sector in the past was due to “staff from the private ward were being taken into NHS and vice versa” and the same issue may arise again.
Hooper recognised that the issues could reoccur but stated that the staff should be focusing on the NHS duties primarily as it is their “core duty”.
