Procter and Gamble probiotic ‘meets new guidelines’
Procter and Gamble’s (P&G) Align with Bifantis product meets new guidelines, according to the company.
The five criteria – set by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) – states the product must have clinical proof, strain specificity, packaging, quality and quantity.
According to P&G, Align fully meets the conditions – entitled Ps and Qs of Probiotics – as a treatment for people who wish to build a natural immunity to abdominal discomfort and episodic digestive episodes.
Commenting on the endorsement, Susan Abeln, principal scientist at the company’s research and development department, said the new criteria “set a high standard” that few products can meet.
She added: “Align already has strong clinical proof behind it, and the fact that Align meets these guidelines is just further proof for why it is recommended.”
Last month, P&G said it had reached a settlement in its patent infringement lawsuit against Fruit of the Earth.
