Purina to sponsor AKC registered handlers programme

20th November 2008

Purina has been announced as the official dog food sponsor of the American Kennel Club (AKC) Registered Handlers Programme by the organisation.

The event sets criteria and standards for knowledgeable, responsible and professional handlers, along with their apprentices.

Darrell Hayes, AKC vice-president of dog show judges, said the panel were very pleased to have Purina supporting the programme.

He added: “It will enable us to enhance the program, ultimately benefiting not only enrolled handlers and their clients, but also young handlers attending our clinics.”

Director of marketing operations for Nestle Purina Pet Care, Anna Viklund, also commented the company is pleased to partner with the AKC and its Registered Handlers Programme.

In other news, Purina has introduced a ‘Marley and Me’ ornament, in celebration of the upcoming film.

The 20th Century Fox movie-themed model will be included in specially-marked bags of the company’s Dog Chow brand Dog Food and Puppy Chow this Christmas.

Established in Somerset in 1929 as Spillers Foods, Purina is now headquartered in St Louis, US and employs approximately 14,500 people worldwide.

Following a merger in 2001 with Nestle, the company’s brands include Go Cat, Winalot, Felix and Bakers Complete.
