Qiagen receives ISO certification for forensic products

4th October 2017

Qiagen has received ISO certification from the leading inspection agency Bureau Veritas for its forensics portfolio.

It has been determined that Qiagen's manufacturing and supply chain for consumables and other products for forensic and human identity testing complies with the latest ISO18385:2016 standard, which is designed to help prevent contamination of products for DNA casework and reference databases.

These requirements cover the manufacturing of products used in the collection, storage and analysis of human DNA during forensic testing, including sampling kits such as swabs, containers and packaging, as well as consumables used by forensics labs to analyse DNA samples.

Qiagen said this certification reflects its longstanding commitment to working with experts in forensic sciences and law enforcement to minimise any potential contamination of samples through the adoption of high standards, and to ensure the greatest level of accuracy in DNA fingerprinting.

Dr Thomas Schweins, senior vice-president and head of Qiagen's life sciences business, said: "We are very proud to have achieved this third-party confirmation that the manufacturing of our forensic workflows meets the state-of-the-art ISO standards for reliability and quality."
