Qiagen reports quarterly sales growth

5th May 2010

Qiagen has enjoyed what it describes as a “successful start” to 2010 after reporting year-on-year sales growth in the first quarter.

The science firm accrued $264.4 million (174.5 million pounds) in net sales during the three months ending March 31st 2010, up 20 per cent from the first quarter of 2009.

This result comes after a quarter which saw the company launch 14 new products, such as the QIAxtractor and QIAsymphony AS, with four per cent of its sales total coming from items released in the last year.

Other key Qiagen achievements from the January to March period were its acquisition of portable multiplex UV and fluorescence optical measurement device manufacturer ESE, as well as a new collaboration with Pfizer.

Peer Schatz, Qiagen’s chief executive officer, said: “We recorded strong revenue and adjusted net income growth and continued to see exciting momentum in our strategic position.”

This comes after the company last month announced new appointments to the leadership infrastructure of its Pharma business development team, with Dr Pia Gargiulo and Richard Watts to occupy key roles.
