Radiometer ABL800 FLEX top for eGFR, says Mayo Clinic

Radiometer’s ABL800 FLEX blood gas analyser demonstrated the best clinical concordance when creatinine values were used to calculate estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), a new study has indicated.

Undertaken by the department of laboratory medicine and pathology at the Mayo Clinic, the research involved 266 patients and evaluated the clinical concordance of eGFR calculation using a number of whole blood creatinine techniques compared to a reference plasma creatinine assay.

"According to the data, the Radiometer method exhibited both the smallest absolute bias between whole blood and plasma creatinine and the best overall concordance with plasma eGFR," the company said.

In addition to the ABL800 FLEX, the firm’s Integra 400, i-STAT and StatSensor machines were used during the research.

Earlier this month, Radiometer stated that its TCM TOSCA and TCM CombiM monitors significantly lower the risk of data and patient mix-ups during continuous transcutaneous monitoring of a range of measures, including oxygen and carbon dioxide.
