Randox releases new drug testing kit

25th June 2008

Randox claims its new ELISA kits offer fast, simple and reliable drug residue screening.

The international diagnostics company’s kit measures residue in a variety of matrices including serum, bile, milk, urine, hair, feathers, muscle and feed.

A company statement said: "[The kits] offer a host of benefits over others on the market.

"[They] are easy to use, highly specific whilst still being an extremely cost-effective screening method. Drug residues can be measured in various matrices."

Randox claim the kit can analyse up to 120 samples in a time period of between two and three hours whereas rival products can take up to 30 minutes to process a single sample.

The firm was founded in 1982 by Dr Peter Fitzgerald and now claims to be a multi-million pound business employing 600 people, including 185 research scientists.

It recently announced four new tests for the assessment of renal function after developing two tests for creatinine – the standard marker for renal function.

Levels of creatinine in the blood rise when there is kidney damage.
