Reckitt Benckiser in line to bid for Sarah Lee

15th April 2009

Reckitt Benckiser is one of the bidders for Sarah Lee’s European household and personal care division.

The latter, which makes Imperial Leather soap and Carex handwash, hopes to raise at least $2 billion dollars (1.3 million pounds) from the takeover.

However, separate bids have been invited by Goldman Sachs, which is handling the sale, for the different departments of the company.

Now Reckitt Benckiser – whose health and personal care brands includes Veet, Clearasill and Strepsils – faces other candidates trying to buy the whole or some of Sarah Lee ? including Unilever, Colgate-Palmolive, SC Johnson and PZ Cussons.

Meanwhile, it has announced it will meet on Tuesday April 28th at 13:30 BST to discuss its financial results of the first quarter of 2009.

A question and answer session will be held at the gathering – of which a summary will be archived later in the day on the firm’s website.

During February this year, chief executive of the business Bart Becht asserted targets for 2009 included a four per cent growth in net revenue and an increase of up to ten per cent for net income.
