ResMed aims to improve use of CPAP devices
ResMed has outlined its plans to encourage more sleep apnoea patients to use continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices.
According to Amy Cook, director of healthcare informatics at ResMed, CPAP adherence rates are still only around the 50 per cent mark.
As a result, she wants to roll out a new design to improve usage and encourage compliance, as well as provide patients with more data to strengthen engagement.
Speaking at the MD&M West 2017 conference, Ms Cook said ResMed plans to look closely at the reasons why many patients are failing to use this option.
This, she said, could enable it to come up with solutions and develop design prototypes for testing.
Ms Cook stated that these could then be refined and tested as often as is necessary.
"Use-case testing creates an opportunity for us to understand where patients are facing challenges and provides fixes before a product reaches the marketplace," she commented.
