Roche breaks records with fundraising Children’s Walk event
Roche has announced that its annual Children’s Walk charity event for 2017 has been its most successful to date.
The company has organised a Children’s Walk each year since 2003, with this year’s event marking the 14th occasion. The Children’s Walk is Roche’s signature worldwide employee project, with all funds raised matched by the company to double the donation.
This year, employees from 145 company sites in 70 countries participated in the walk to help raise money for children’s education and health initiatives in more than 90 communities around the world.
Examples of these non-governmental organisation programmes include the construction and refurbishment of early childhood development centres in Malawi, and a project to increase food security and sustainable environmental approaches in the same country.
To date, more than 15.4 million Swiss francs (12.53 million pounds) have been raised through the Children’s Walk.
Severin Schwan, chief executive officer of Roche, said: “Our employees come together every year to support sustainable, philanthropic projects. Such projects improve the lives of young people in communities where we operate, and in areas of the world considered some of the most vulnerable.”
