Roche completes takeover of Flatiron Health
Roche has announced the completion of its previously announced takeover of the New York-based healthcare technology and services company Flatiron Health.
The $1.9 billion (GBP 1.36 billion) deal gives Roche control over a leading developer of oncology-specific electronic health record software, with the company also specialising in the curation and development of real-world evidence for cancer research.
Flatiron Health operates a large network of community oncology practices and academic medical centres, supported by a technology platform designed to learn from the personal experience of every patient.
Following the conclusion of this deal, Flatiron Health will continue its operations as a separate legal entity, with its current business model, network of partnerships and overall objectives remaining the same.
Daniel O'Day, chief executive officer of Roche Pharmaceuticals, said: "This is an important step in our personalised healthcare strategy for Roche, as we believe that regulatory-grade real-world evidence is a key ingredient to accelerate the development of, and access to, new cancer treatments."
