Roche Continents held for third time

6th August 2009

Roche Continents, the pharmaceutical company’s collaborative project with Salzburg Festival, has taken place for the third time.

The event brought together science, arts and music students from 21 European countries to discuss creativity in their fields of study in order to uncover common ground in disciplines that appear – at first glance – to be very different.

Franz Humer, chairman of Roche’s board of directors, explained that innovation is one of the keys to success in the global pharmaceutical industry and that it also plays an important role of many other areas of life.

“The seeds of progress and innovation are sown in people’s minds and our aim is to foster a climate of creativity, openness and listening in which students are encouraged to explore unfamiliar paths and try new things,” he added.

Helga Rabl-Stadler, president of the Salzburg Festival, stated that the event is “extremely grateful” to Roche for facilitating the joint international venture between science and the arts.

In its half-year financial results, which were published last month, Roche announced that its group sales reached 24 billion Swiss francs (13.2 billion pounds) during the six-month period ended June 30th.
