Roche Diagnostics names new chief executive officer

2nd October 2007

Roche Diagnostics has announced the appointment of Jurgen Schwiezer as the new chief executive officer of the division, with this move to be effective from January 1st 2008.

Mr Schwiezer is currently president of the segment in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, in addition to Latin America.

He will succeed Severin Schwan in the role and also move to the group’s headquarters in Basel as he joins the corporate executive committee of the firm.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Mr Schwan would vacate the role of chief executive officer of the diagnostics division as he succeeds Franz B Humer as chief executive officer of Roche.

Dr Humer said: “In naming Jurgen Schwiezer divisional [chief executive officer], we have chosen a manager who not only has in-depth understanding of the diagnostics business, but who also has a long and outstanding track record in the division’s largest market region.”

He added that the company’s European segment has seen a measurable strengthening of its leadership in the in-vitro diagnostics market under the stewardship of Mr Schweizer.

In July 2007, Rochre reported that Dr Humer will retain his role of chairman of Roche Holdings after he relinquishes the position of group chairman in March 2008.
