Roche launches Cobas Plasma Separation Card for HIV testing

18th January 2018

Roche has announced the launch of its new Cobas Plasma Separation Card, a stable and easy-to-use sample collection device for HIV plasma viral load testing.

The card, which has received European CE Mark approval, simplifies blood collection and sample transportation by requiring only a small amount of a patient's blood to be collected from a fingertip.

Typically, plasma viral load results require samples to be cooled during transport to the lab, but by eliminating this need, the new Cobas product allows for reliable quantitative testing of patients with HIV living in remote areas, even those with extreme heat and humidity.

The Cobas Plasma Separation Card will now be added to the Roche Global Access Program, a scheme designed to expand access to diagnostics in countries hardest hit by HIV across the world.

Roland Diggelmann, chief executive officer of Roche Diagnostics, said: "This card will improve access and increase HIV diagnostics scaling up efforts to further the critical work of our many healthcare partners in eradicating the HIV/AIDS epidemic."
