Roche launches new Cobas Liat PCR System in Europe
Roche has announced the European launch of the Cobas Liat PCR System, a new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing system, with four assays initially available.
These include tests for streptococcus A, influenza A/B, and influenza A/B and respiratory syncytial virus, as well as the first 20-minute real-time PCR nucleic acid test for the detection of Clostridium difficile.
It is able to detects signs of C. difficile in stool specimens from symptomatic patients in under 20 minutes, allowing for timely and accurate diagnosis of potentially life-threatening infections.
Other key advantages include a minimal need for handling, a simplified workflow and access to urgent results.
This Cobas Cdiff assay is the first in what is planned to be a larger healthcare-associated infections portfolio, which will be expanded in the second quarter of 2017 with the launch of the Cobas MRSA/SA assay.
Roland Diggelmann, chief executive officer of Roche Diagnostics, said: "Roche is proud to bring the advantages of real-time PCR testing to point-of-care settings with the Cobas Liat System."
