Roche names new chief executive officer of Genentech

Roche has announced the appointment of Bill Anderson as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of its subsidiary Genentech.

Mr Anderson, who is also the head of Genentech's north American commercial operations, will take on the new role on January 1st 2017, succeeding the retiring Ian Clark.

The new CEO has served in a number of key leadership positions at Genentech and Roche over the past decade, most recently as head of global product strategy. It means he can offer significant experience of drug development and business leadership.

Mr Clark will be stepping down as CEO at the end of the year after 14 years with Genentech. He has overseen a period of considerable evolution for the company since its 2009 merger with Roche, as well as helping to spearhead the launch of 15 new medicines.

Daniel O'Day, chief executive officer of Roche's pharmaceuticals division, said: "We are confident that he will nurture Genentech's unique culture and build upon a legacy of pursuing groundbreaking science to find the next breakthroughs for patients."
