Roche names new head of pharma research and early development

9th March 2018

Roche has announced the appointment of Dr William Pao as the new head of its pharma research and early development (pRED) division.

Dr Pao, the current global head of oncology discovery and translational science within the pRED unit, will take up the new role in Basel on April 2nd, and will become a member of the company's enlarged corporate executive committee.

He has been with Roche since 2014, having previously served as professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University, earning recognition for his groundbreaking work in translational medicine, targeted cancer therapeutics, cancer genomics and personalised medicine.

Dr Pao's appointment comes after Dr John Reed, who has served as head of the pRED division since 2013, made the decision to leave Roche for personal reasons and return to the US.

Severin Schwan, chief executive officer of Roche, said: "I am thankful to have had John Reed with Roche over the past five years, and for all his many valuable contributions. I wish John all the best for his future."
