Roche reports sales growth in first quarter of 2014

16th April 2014

Roche has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2014, during which it generated group sales of 11.5 billion (7.79 billion pounds) Swiss francs.

This represents a year-on-year increase of five percent at constant exchange rates, with pharmaceutical sales benefiting from continued growth of products such as Avastin, MabThera/Rituxan, Actemra/RoActemra and Herceptin.

Strong uptake of recently-launched products such as Perjeta and Kadcyla for HER2 positive breast cancer also contributed to the good performance, while its diagnostics division experienced sales growth of seven percent.

The company expects to achieve further growth in the months to come following the takeover of IQuum, a move that will strengthen its molecular diagnostics capabilities.

Roche chief executive officer Severin Schwan said: "Based on the first quarter results, I am confident we will meet our full year targets."

This comes after the firm last month appointed Dr William Pao to an oncology research leadership role within its Pharma Research and Early Development division.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801713083-ADNFCR
