Roche sees sales growth in first quarter

15th April 2010

Roche has published its financial report for the first quarter of 2010, hailing its performance as representing a “very good start” to the year.

The company’s group sales grew by nine per cent year-on-year to 12.2 billion Swiss francs (7.7 billion pounds), with both its pharmaceuticals and diagnostics division outpacing the growth rate of their respective markets.

Its strong performance was driven by improved sales in sectors such as oncology, with the cancer drug Avastin selling particularly well, while the launch of products such as Actemra also contributed.

As a result of these findings, the company has confirmed its outlook for 2010 that sales for the pharmaceuticals division and the entire group will increase “in the mid-single-digit range”.

Severin Schwan, Roche’s chief executive officer, added that the company is “fully on track for 2010”.

Earlier this week, the firm agreed a deal to purchase the Medingo division of Elron Electronics, thereby adding a new insulin patch pump device to its diabetes portfolio.
