Roswell Park Reveal Cutting-Edge Blood Cancer Detector

24th November 2023

Located in the United States, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center unveiled a cutting-edge, quick blood cancer test.

The device, named Panheme, is equipped with genetic sequencing capabilities that will allow multiple blood cancers to be identified.

At this time, procedures to identify gene abnormalities can take up to a month whereas Panheme can deliver the same outcome in just 3 days.

All variations of blood cancer can be identified by the Panheme, along with the specific gene mutations which can aid doctors in creating a treatment plan and assessing severity.

Since around mid 2022, medical experts have utilized the blood cancer detector on more than 1400 individuals with the condition, performing the test on around 50 blood specimens weekly.

“We can use medications that are FDA-approved for other diseases but that attack the same mutation that can occur in myeloma—and those medications might work better than standard myeloma treatments.” commented Jens Hillengass, head of Roswell Park Myeloma.
