Rowlands Pharmacy to raise awareness of bowel cancer

1st April 2011

Rowlands Pharmacy has launched a new campaign that is intended to increase awareness of bowel cancer among its clients.

The Behind Closed Doors scheme is being run in partnership with charity group Beating Bowel Cancer and will see posters and leaflets appearing in the pharmacy chain's UK outlets throughout April 2011, reports Chemist and Druggist.

In addition, the company's staff have been tasked with providing customers with advice on indicators of the disease as part of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society-endorsed initiative.

According to a Rowlands spokesperson, pharmacy workers are "ideally placed" to identify those that may be experiencing bowel cancer symptoms and advise them to see a GP for diagnosis.

"Community pharmacies have the ability to identify people buying repeat treatments for common symptoms such as constipation, diarrhoea and haemorrhoid preparations," the representative explained.

Last month, Chemist and Druggist reported that Rowlands Pharmacy is seeking a second superintendent pharmacist after electing to split the role formerly occupied solely by Ian Cowan.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800485126-ADNFCR
