Royal Canin launches new liquid diets for tube-feeding of animals
Royal Canin has announced the launch of a new line of complete liquid diets specifically designed for the tube-feeding of critically ill animals.
The five formulas have been trialled in six small animal referral emergency units in Europe and have been developed for the varying nutritional and energy needs of tube-fed cats and dogs.
Included in the range are a canine and feline renal liquid formula containing high-quality proteins and restricted levels of phosphorus, as well as a recovery liquid with high protein for maintaining muscle mass in dogs and cats.
Also available are a gastrointestinal low-fat liquid diet to support dogs requiring fat restriction and a gastrointestinal high-energy diet for dogs requiring enhanced digestive support.
It is estimated that 73 percent of veterinary patients suffer from an energy deficit during hospitalisation, with nutrition seen as an important part of managing these patients.
Sarah Collins, veterinary marketing executive at Royal Canin, said: "Royal Canin's complete liquid diets support the nutritional restoration and convalescence of dogs and cats requiring assisted enteral nutrition and help neutralising free radicals."
