Royal Canin opens new facility

7th October 2008

Royal Canin is to open a new manufacturing facility today (Tuesday).

The facility, costing $73 million (38 million pounds), will produce dry foods for the Canadian market as well as exporting products to the USA.

The French pet food manufacturer now has production operations in ten countries with the opening of the new plant, located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the Exchange Morning Post reported.

Guelph was described as “the centre of veterinary nutrition and the agricultural industry” by the news source. Royal Canin, which has links with the University of Guelph, purchased the land in 2005.

Royal Canin is already planning an expansion, with the Guelph facility’s cooking facility expected to double this year, while a food safety and testing centre and an education centre is planned for next year.

The news may interest people in animal health jobs, who may also like to visit the Supreme Cat Show – supported by Royal Canin – held at the NEC in Birmingham next month.
