RPSGB appoints new communications staff

23rd January 2008

Two new senior communications officers have been appointed to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB).

It has announced that its Public Affairs and Communications Directorate will receive two new senior staff as it enters a period of “unprecedented change”, moving from one organisation into two – a separate regulator and a professional body.

Rebecca Hopkinson has worked for two years as a press officer for EDF Energy and is a qualified journalist and Niklas Bergstrand left a role as a communications officer with the International Organisation for Migration in order to accept the position.

Jean-Pierre Moser, head of corporate communications and membership, commented on the appointment of the two new communications officers, saying the appointments are needed as pharmacists take on new, more clinical roles.

“It is important that the public and the media understand how these changes are impacting on healthcare delivery,” he explained.

In related news, earlier this month the RPSGB highlighted the role pharmacies should play in supporting public health.

Pharmacists already conduct health screening programmes for infections such as chlamydia and diseases such as diabetes.

Furthermore, the organisation noted, they also provide health and lifestyle advice to customers.
