Sandoz pledges donations of generic medicines to Americares

Sandoz has announced a new programme to provide medical donations to support the work of the health-focused relief and development organisation Americares.

The collaboration will see Sandoz donate up to $10 million (8.05 million pounds) of stock to the organisation, which intervenes in cases of extreme poverty or disasters with health programmes, medicine and medical supplies.

It will help increase deliveries of essential medications to Americares' partner hospitals and health clinics in more than 90 countries.

An initial donation of more than 25 Sandoz products will include generic treatments for infections, cardiovascular conditions, eyecare, skin conditions and musculoskeletal pain, with donations to be made throughout. The number and selection of products may change according to needs.

This comes as part of a wider commitment by the company to develop services and corporate responsibility programmes to improve access to medicine, medical information and medical capacity in underserved regions.

Peter Goldschmidt, president of Sandoz, said: "Our collaboration with Americares will hopefully help thousands of people receive treatments that would otherwise be unavailable to them."
