Sanofi and Genzyme host Fabry disease roundtable event
Sanofi and Genzyme are hosting a scientific meeting in Madrid this week that will discuss disease management issues affecting patients suffering from the rare condition Fabry disease.
More than 200 physicians, academics, researchers and patient organisation representatives from around the world will attend the 13th European Fabry Disease Roundtable, which is taking place on April 19th and 20th.
Focusing on the theme of improving specialised care in Fabry disease, the event will see attendees discussing current clinical care for patients and potential future treatment strategies.
Topics for consideration include how best to diagnose the condition, new trends in disease research and the potential identification of clinically useful biomarkers.
Genzyme's head of rare diseases Dr Rogerio Vivaldi said: "As we continue to better understand the optimal way to care for patients who live with Fabry, there will be particular focus on how adopting a multidisciplinary approach can improve treatment outcomes."
Fabry disease is associated with progressive life-threatening renal, cardiac and cerebrovascular complications and is estimated to affect around one in every 117,000 people worldwide.
