Sanofi-aventis and Stanford University Bio-X agree new partnership

20th April 2011

Sanofi-aventis has signed a new collaborative agreement with the Bio-X programme run by Stanford University.

The early-stage research partnership will see the drug company allying with the life sciences programme founded by Stanford University in 1998 in order to promote interdisciplinary research in bioscience.

Up to five study projects will be selected by a joint Stanford Bio-X and Sanofi-aventis steering committee each year, with funding to be provided by both organisations.

Sanofi-aventis has also agreed to fund an annual research forum, during which scientists employed by the bodies will share knowledge and perspectives on relevant matters.

Dr Paul Chew, senior vice-president, chief science officer and chief medical officer for Sanofi-aventis in the US, said: "Our approach to research and development must ensure we are at the centre of the most innovative science, whether inside our own walls or through external partnerships."

Last month, the company announced a new alliance with the Vision Institute in Europe in order to conduct research into eye diseases.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800506924-ADNFCR
