Sanofi-Aventis appoints new executive vice-president

Sanofi-Aventis has selected Jerome Contamine as its executive vice-president and chief financial officer.

Previously, he worked for Veolia Environment as senior executive vice-president, deputy general manager and chief financial officer.

Chris Viehbacher, chief executive officer of Sanofi-Aventis, asserted he is “extremely pleased” with the appointment, as Mr Contamine is a “highly qualified professional”.

He further noted that the latest addition to the team would bring a high level of expertise, along with an extensive knowledge of international corporations.

“I am confident Jerome will play a valuable role in transforming Sanofi-Aventis into a global healthcare leader,” Mr Viehbacher concluded.

Last month, a division of the group, Sanofi Pasteur, announced the European Commission had granted marketing authorisation for the first intradermal microinjection influenza vaccine.

It will be branded as Intanza or IDflue and has been a proved for use in both adults – aged 18 and over – and the elderly, 60-years-old and above.
