Sanofi Consumer Healthcare study highlights life impact of allergies

11th April 2017

Sanofi Consumer Healthcare has announced the results of a social experiment designed to demonstrate the significant quality-of-life impact associated with allergies.

For this study, 160 participants – 80 allergy sufferers and 80 non-sufferers – used a wearable device for 30 days to track their sleep and activity, with the former group also completing a daily survey to track perceptions of their allergy symptoms.

It was shown that allergy sufferers were almost four times more likely to see their sleep disrupted than those without allergies, meaning they were less rested and less physically active during the day.

Sufferers were also shown to travel an average of only 3.16 miles a day while active, whereas people without allergies traveled 3.35 miles.

Allergist Dr Neeta Ogden said: "Many allergy sufferers have gotten so used to their symptoms that they don't even realise how significantly they may be impacting their day-to-day lives, including everything from their sleep at night to their productivity during the day."

The survey was conducted to help promote the benefits of Xyzal Allergy 24HR, an antihistamine product that offers control of allergy symptoms over a 24-hour period.
