Sanofi Pasteur names new chief executive

31st July 2007

Sanofi-Aventis has announced the imminent retirement of the president and chief executive officer of its vaccines division, Sanofi Pasteur, with David J Williams set to stand down from the role at the start of August 2007.

Mr Williams will continue to serve as chairman of the board of Sanofi Pasteur until January 26th 2008.

In August, Mr Williams will be succeeded as president and chief executive officer by Wayne Pisano, who will be promoted from senior vice-president of global commercial operations and corporate strategy at the firm. He has been employed at Sanofi Pasteur since 1997.

Mr Pisano said: “I am looking forward to bringing to the market more innovative solutions to public health worldwide while contributing strongly to Sanofi-Aventis growth.”

Gerard Le Fur, chief executive officer of Sanofi-Aventis, described Mr Pisano as well-prepared to take up the role of heading Sanofi Pasteur, while stating that Mr Williams’ continuing role as chairman will facilitate an effective transition of his other responsibilities to Mr Pisano.

Last week, Sanofi Pasteur announced the completion of the construction of its $150 million (23 million pound) influenza vaccine manufacturing site, which is due to come online after it receives licensing approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in late 2008 or early 2009.
