Sanofi’s diabetes drug Toujeo demonstrates benefits in real-world study

3rd April 2017

Sanofi has announced new data from a real-world study demonstrating the significant benefits offered by its type 2 diabetes therapy Toujeo.

The DELIVER 2 study analysed electronic medical records for 1,894 patients in two matched cohorts to assess blood sugar levels and trends in the occurrence of hypoglycaemia among patients treated with Toujeo compared to other basal insulins.

A significantly lower risk of hypoglycaemia was associated with Toujeo, without compromising blood sugar control, in patients with type 2 diabetes, when compared to other insulin products.

Riccardo Perfetti, head of global diabetes medical team at ‎Sanofi, said: "Sanofi is committed to going beyond traditional models to conduct further studies to assess Toujeo, combining the broad populations and type of interaction between healthcare professionals and patients seen in routine care with the rigorous methodology of clinical trials."

The company is also conducting a programme of three real-life clinical studies with Toujeo, called ACHIEVE CONTROL, REACH CONTROL and REGAIN CONTROL. Between them, they will involve more than 4,500 people with type 2 diabetes across the US and Europe.

In addition to clinical measures, the studies will also collect patient feedback on treatment satisfaction and experiences of hypoglycaemia, along with impact on healthcare resource utilisation. Initial results are anticipated later in 2017.
