Sara Lee announces business outsourcing

11th December 2008

Sara Lee has announced intentions to outsource pieces of its finance and global information services and global indirect procurement activities.

As part of the company’s Project Accelerate initiative, the schemes are in a bid to bring $200 million to $250 million (133.8 million pounds to 167 million pounds) to the organisation over the next three years.

Implementation is aimed to take place over the period, with all required consultation procedures in Europe.

Brenda Barnes, chairman and chief executive officer at Sara Lee, said: “Project Accelerate is designed to improve margins and drive shareholder value, as we continue to build the long-term strength of the company.

“Business process outsourcing will help Sara Lee further drive standardisation, increase efficiency and provide flexibility.”

Last month, the company awarded a seven-year infrastructure services contract to HP to manage its global technology environment.

The deal was part of the company’s aim to reduce costs in its businesses and increase operational efficiencies.

Based in Dowers Grove, US, Sara Lee was founded in 1939 and, in 2006, employed 50,000 people.

The company’s operating profit in 2008 was $160 million and its brands include Prima, Radox, Sanex and Ambi Pur.
