Sartorius agrees TAP Biosystems takeover

25th November 2013

Sartorius has announced that it will be acquiring TAP Biosystems, a UK-based life sciences company headquartered in Royston.

The deal will see Sartorius Stedim Biotech purchase TAP Biosystems for around 33 million euros (27.57 million pounds), with the transaction set to close at the end of the year.

TAP Biosystems employs around 160 people worldwide and specialises in small-scale, multi-parallel fermentation and cell culture systems for biopharmaceutical applications, as well as automated cell processing systems and other benchtop equipment.

Founded in 1987, the company generated sales revenue of approximately 26 million euros during 2012/13.

A statement from Sartorius said the takeover will enable it "to further extend its bioprocess portfolio in the area of fermentation, especially in the early phases of product and process development".

Last month, Sartorius published its financial results for the first nine months of 2013, during which it achieved a 5.2 percent year-on-year increase in sales revenues to 657.3 million euros.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801664684-ADNFCR
