Sartorius Stedim Biotech to acquire centrifuge specialist kSep

11th July 2016

Sartorius Stedim Biotech has agreed to acquire the US-based centrifuge specialist kSep in a deal worth $28 million (21.53 million pounds).

Based in North Carolina, the start-up has been operating since 2011 and is dedicated to the creation of single-use fully-automated centrifugation systems for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals, such as vaccines, cell-based therapeutics and monoclonal antibodies.

It is expected to achieve significant double-digit growth and to generate around $7 million sales revenues and a strong double-digit earnings margin in 2016. Sartorius Stedim Biotech is aiming to close the deal before the end of the month.

The firm's centrifuges are expected to complement its new parent company's existing downstream bioprocessing offerings.

Reinhard Vogt, member of Sartorius Stedim Biotech's board, said: "Our clients will greatly benefit from the unique ability to collect, wash and concentrate cells quickly and reduce both the time and cost of downstream purification steps."

This comes after Sartorius also recently announced the purchase of IntelliCyt Corporation, an award-winning creator of novel cell screening platforms used in drug discovery.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801821625-ADNFCR
