SCA to collaborate with BioGaia on new products

28th September 2010

SCA is looking to expand its range of innovative hygiene products for the healthcare sector via a new collaborative agreement with BioGaia.

The two companies have announced a long-term cooperation agreement which will focus on the development of BioGaia's probiotic bacteria expertise and applications technologies into commercially viable products.

SCA suggests that probiotic bacteria can offer applications in a number of different areas, such as in the prevention of urinary tract infections among users of incontinence products.

Ingela Torstensson, head of global research for SCA's hygiene products, expressed confidence that the firm will benefit from BioGaia's alternate perspective and expand beyond its "current work boundaries".

She added: "It is clear that we have complementary expertise and, given our knowledge of innovation programmes, it would not be surprising if we were to achieve results in entirely unexpected areas."

According to the company's most recent financial report in July 2010, SCA saw increased demand for hygiene products during the second quarter of the year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800086794-ADNFCR
