8th September 2009

Schering-Plough and Merck, both of which are set to merge, have revealed which members of the former company’s board of directors are set to remain on the newly-combined panel.

Robert Kidder, Patricia Russo and Craig Thompson will stay on the board following the merger.

Mr Kidder, who has been a Schering-Plough director since 2005, has also occupied the posts of chairman and chief executive officer of 3Stone Advisors, principal of investment firm Stonehenge Partners, chairman of Chrysler Group and lead director of Morgan Stanley.

His colleague Ms Russo, who has been on the board since 1995 and is now lead director, has held posts with Alcoa and General Motors in the past.

Lastly, Mr Thompson, the director of the Abramson Cancer Center since 2006, was the founding scientific director of the Abramson Institute and is a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

The merger is scheduled for completion during the final quarter of 2009.

Meanwhile, Schering-Plough this week revealed the recipient of its Dieter Lutticken Award, an accolade established to recognise the efforts of those who research alternatives to animal testing.

It went to Dr Ivo Claassen of the Veterinary Institute in the Netherlands.
