Schering-Plough launches athlete’s foot website

21st May 2009

Schering-Plough has launched a website to educate and help young men with athlete’s foot.

The skin infection is commonly picked up from walking around with no shoes or socks on in changing rooms and public areas.

Males aged between 14 and 22 are most susceptible to the problem, which can be caused when wearing footwear without proper ventilation or by sweating feet.

The online resource features a series of “webisodes” focusing on a fictitious family, as well as a character to represent fungus, to communicate a message about the problem in a funny and entertaining way.

Dr John O’Mullane, group vice-president of research and development for Schering-Plough Consumer Health, noted many young men can be frightened and intimidated when they first experience athlete’s foot.

He commented on the website: “Our research indicated that to reach this age group we would need to go beyond the traditional methods of communication with our customers.”

The company has also introduced an antifungal product to treat the condition called Tinactin Chill, which is available as a deodorant powder or liquid spray.

Meanwhile, Schering-Plough has launched a new range of sunscreens to help promote natural skin repair that contains antioxidants.
