Schering-Plough welcomes new board member

4th January 2008

Schering-Plough has welcomed a new member to its ranks after the company elected Dr Craig B Thompson to its board of directors.

Following the election, Dr Thompson will take up the role as an independent director under both the New York Stock Exchange standards and the more stringent Schering-Plough board independence standards.

He is currently the director of the Abramson Cancer Center as well as working as a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Patricia Russo, chair of the board’s nominating and corporate governance committee, expressed her delight in seeing Dr Thompson join the board, stating that his perspective as a scientist and physician would add strength to the board’s work.

Fred Hasan, chairman and chief executive officer of Schering-Plough, added that his experience in fighting cancer was a key asset for the board.

“This additional strength on the board is critical as we continue to increase Schering-Plough’s science-focus during our progression along our Action Agenda to transform Schering-Plough into a high-performance, global competitor for the long term,” he stated.

Also this week, Schering-Plough announced that its New Drug Application for sugammadex has been assigned priority review status by the US Food and Drug Administration.
