Shire appoints new specialty pharmaceuticals executives

9th February 2011

Shire has appointed Dr Lawson Macartney and Dr Mario Saltarelli to key executive research and development roles within its specialty pharmaceuticals business.

The company has appointed former GlaxoSmithKline employee Dr Macartney as senior vice-president of the emerging business unit, where he will take responsibility for early-stage pipeline development efforts.

Meanwhile, Dr Saltarelli joins Shire from Abbott Laboratories to take up the position of senior vice-president for clinical development and medical affairs, offering leadership and strategies for drug creation programmes.

Both newly-appointed senior executives will report directly to Dr Jeffrey Jonas, senior vice-president of research and development for the specialty pharmaceuticals division.

"The experience and expertise that Drs Macartney and Saltarelli bring to the Shire team will help us advance our pipeline, more effectively manage the lifecycle of our medicines and provide growth opportunities," he explained.

This comes after the firm appointed Emmanuel Chantelot as its director of European government relations and public policy last month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800393935-ADNFCR
