Shire launches new awards programme for carers

23rd June 2011

Shire has launched a new international awards programme that is aimed at recognising the dedication and hard work of carers worldwide.

Nominations for the inaugural Shire Brave Awards initiative are being accepted between now and August 31st 2011, with the event itself to take place in November.

With an initial jurisdiction encompassing France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US, the event will honour non-professional carers providing regular, consistent support for another person.

Shire will select a pool of finalists who are felt to be most worthy, with the company's global workforce then voting to pick ten winners, who will each win $10,000 (6,250 pounds) or the local currency equivalent.

Angus Russell, Shire's chief executive officer, said: "The Brave Awards honour some of the bravest people in the world – those who give their time, support and compassion to care for a relative, neighbour or friend."

Last month, the company announced data from a survey it funded that aimed to demonstrate the impact attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has on the quality of life of affected children.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800591530-ADNFCR
