Shire partners with celebrity to highlight adult ADHD

17th September 2009

Shire has joined with Dancing with the Stars participant Karina Smirnoff to mark Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Day and highlight her struggle with the condition.

The professional dancer has suffered from the disorder since childhood, contending with symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

However, Ms Smirnoff’s doctor prescribed Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) capsules to help her control ADHD – a drug researched, developed and manufactured by Shire.

“After speaking with my doctor and getting diagnosed with ADHD, I realised that having tools – such as medication and organisational strategies – would help manage my symptoms,” she explained.

This is not the first ADHD initiative Shire has participated in of late. In August, the firm announced the launch of two schemes that aim to reinforce its commitment to the treatment of the condition in adults.
