Shire Pharmaceuticals to enhance drug research with IDBS suite

15th April 2010

Shire Pharmaceuticals is to incorporate a new IT suite from data management specialist IDBS into its virtual drug research activities.

The company has selected IDBS’ E-WorkBook Suite for use in 2010 and beyond, a cloud-based technology for the storage and management of research and development data.

This will allow Shire to minimise its in-house IT footprint and forego the need for on-site data storage facilities, while the scalable and searchable nature of the suite will make knowledge transfer a more streamlined process.

Dr Stephen Damment, senior vice-president of biosciences at Shire, said it has selected IDBS to support its research based on its proven experience in the field.

He added: “This new technology will support our remote vendor partnership relationships and enhance the transfer, review and searching of data across our exploratory projects.”

Last month, the company published clinical trial data for its type 1 Gaucher disease treatment Vpriv, demonstrating the safety of switching to the drug from an imiglucerase therapy.
