Shire posts “strong core product sales”

7th August 2009

Shire delivered “strong core product sales” during the second quarter of its current fiscal year, the company’s chief executive has asserted.

Angus Russell made his comments as the firm posted its results for the three-month period ended June 30th 2009.

He said: “In the second quarter, we delivered strong core product sales – excluding ADDERALL XR – of $491 million (292 million pounds), representing growth of 20 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.”

Mr Russell also noted that the company has diversified into a broader portfolio of young products with “exciting” prospects for growth and “strong” intellectual property.

He stated that Shire now has a presence in some 26 countries around the world, compared to just nine four years ago.

The firm concluded by reiterating its previously-announced guidance framework for non-GAAP diluted earnings per ADS for 2009.

Earlier this week, the company announced that at the close of business on July 31st, its issued voting share capital consisted of some 560,286,326 ordinary shares, each with a nominal value of 5p.
