Shire wins company of the year award

30th June 2010

Shire has been honoured with the European Mediscience Awards 2010 title of company of the year, ahead of more than 150 other eligible businesses.

It was presented with the honour recognition of the strength of its corporate strategy, in terms of its ability to deliver on its financial, ethical and social ambitions.

Explaining the voting panel’s decision, awards presenter and BBC personality Kate Silverton praised Shire for the improvements in its sales and financial performance in the last year, as well as its successful shift in focus towards becoming a genetic disease specialist biopharmaceutical company.

Angus Russell, chief executive officer of Shire, expressed delight at the company’s victory, saying: “This award recognises the success of our strategy and the hard work of everyone at Shire who is so dedicated to meeting the needs of the patients and their families.”

Last month, Shire published data from a clinical trial of its drug Vyvanse, demonstrating its efficacy in treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder among adolescents.
