Siemens launches new prostate cancer testing system

15th July 2010

Siemens has launched a new device in Europe for prostate cancer testing, which is designed to offer improved detection rates.

The Advia Centaur free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests have been released after receiving CE-mark accreditation and complete a full menu of prostate cancer tests available from Siemens.

It functions in conjunction with existing Advia Centaur tests to help calculate a per cent free PSA value for older patients, which makes it easier to distinguish between cancer and benign prostatic conditions.

David Hickey, executive vice-president for central laboratory and global research and development at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, said its comprehensive system provides a range of advantages.

He explained: “Laboratories have more diagnostic options for their patients, which can enhance quality of care. At the same time, tests can be run more efficiently and cost effectively on a single instrument.”

Earlier this week, Siemens launched version 2.0 of its Acuson S2000 ultrasound system, which offers more functionality and versatility than previous models.
