Siemens to roll out blood gas testing system

26th July 2013

Siemens is to introduce its RAPIDLab 348EX Blood Gas System in a number of global markets for use by low-volume sites.

The RAPIDLab 348EX system features design elements specifically developed to help lower-volume laboratories maximise productivity, including automatic calibration routines and wash sequences, a colour touch screen and an improved onboard printer.

It also incorporates a barcode scanner for patient and operator identification with an optional setting for continuously-on hands-free scanning and a robust onboard processor to store patient test and quality control results, all for a relatively low price.

The system was launched in Japan last year and will be introduced in several selected countries – including the UK – over the next two years.

Sheila Gavan, Siemens' marketing manager, said: "Providing a blood gas system designed to meet the special needs of low-volume testing sites is a key priority for Siemens."

Last month, the firm announced that it will be working with pharmaceutical company Janssen to develop a companion diagnostic test for an investigational heart failure therapy.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801617295-ADNFCR
