Sigma-Aldrich features in Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

3rd October 2013

Sigma-Aldrich has highlighted its recent inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, a prestigious and internationally-recognised marker of excellence in sustainability performance.

Its inclusion in the list reflects its recent efforts to reduce waste, energy and water usage and carbon emissions, while also improving supply chain transparency, expanding its greener alternative products range and bolstering its employee volunteer schemes.

Last year, the company decreased its overall energy usage intensity by ten percent from its 2010 baseline, while also recording a 26 percent increase in employee volunteer hours and a 101 percent rise in charitable contributions from employees.

This comes as part of the firm's GC1015 Initiative, which outlined seven sustainability goals in 2010 that Sigma-Aldrich plans to achieve by 2015.

Rakesh Sachdev, Sigma-Aldrich's president and chief executive officer, said: "We recognise the valuable impact being a better corporate citizen can have on our employees, our customers, our shareholders and the communities where we live and work."

Last month, the company announced that it has expanded its Chozn portfolio of products and services by engineering additional traits into its Chozn Platform cell line.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801645507-ADNFCR
