Sigma-Aldrich to develop new microRNA target reporter system

12th August 2010

Sigma-Aldrich is to ally with SwitchGear Genomics on a joint project to develop a simplified new system of microRNA target validation.

The firm's Sigma Life Science division will help to create a target reporter system based on lentiviral technology and a genome-wide collection of reporter vectors, meaning that target validation can be conducted without the need for time-consuming reporter cloning.

It will also be usable across a wide array of cell types, such as primary cells and stem cells.

The companies hope that the development of this technology will make it easier for life science researchers to investigate and study gene regulation in many biological pathways.

Dr Supriya Shivakumar, global commercial marketing manager for functional genomics at Sigma Life Science, said: "By offering this novel reporter technology in a lentiviral format we are addressing specific customer needs and we believe we are helping to further fundamental understanding of gene regulation."

Last month, Sigma-Aldrich posted its second quarter financial report, during which it experienced year-on-year growth in sales and earnings.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800022641-ADNFCR
